John Cena was and still is the perfect role model for millennials. When wrestling, he always kept high morale. Even outside the ring, he astounds us with his generous donations to various foundations.

Now, let’s take a look at John Cena’s career paths!

Was John Cena a Marine?

No, John Cena has never served in the marine, but I can’t blame those who believe he has. Following his role in the movie The Marine, he began dressing like one.

John Cena was never your stereotypical marine. I do remember him beginning his WWE career as a rapper. He used to have a mohawk, and then there were yellow highlights at one point. Besides, he was all about oversized basketball jerseys, chains, and caps.

I did my little investigation to make sure I remembered correctly, and it turned out that I did. After seeing the evolution of his pictures, I was positive that his style shifted after his first movie.

The Marine was released in 2006; I’m not going to lie, the movie wasn’t a huge success. Yet, it did add some zing to his style.

John Cena began wearing army camouflage clothing and dog tags, kept his buzz cut, and saluted his fans. When you combine all of that with his impeccable wrestling manners, you can’t help but wonder if he was a marine.

How Does John Cena Support the Military?

John Cena has always been a big admirer of heroes who serve our country. In 2019, he joined forces with FitOps, a non-profit organization dedicated to helping veterans and possibly saving their lives.

That was after witnessing the tragic increase in the number of veterans committing suicide over the years. Cena then added, “The numbers are alarming,” and “It’s time to make things right. There is no perfect answer, but I’m more than willing to try.”

FitOps was the closest thing to a perfect answer for me. This foundation is entirely run by veterans who train and certify fellow veterans to become personal trainers.

Since then, John Cena has been drawing awareness to such causes. Aside from fundraising for FitOps, he also donated $1 million to the foundation on Veterans Day. In addition, he announced that one of the donors would be treated to a VIP meet-and-greet.

What Does John Cena Do Beside Wrestling?

Apart from wrestling, the 16-time WWE world champion has a lot to offer. Cena pursued three other careers:

Acting

I love how Cena jumped from one genre to another while doing an amazing job in each. At first, I was skeptical of his comedic acting abilities, but he proved me wrong. Trainwreck and Daddy’s Home are two of his comedies that crack me up every time I watch them.

He did, of course, appear in action movies like F9: The Fast Sage and Suicide Squad. Not to mention his flawless voiceover work in two of my personal favorites, Ferdinand and Dr. Dolittle.

Writing

John Cena is a moving “don’t give up” slogan, so the core of the books he wrote is obvious. Elbow Grease is one of his books, which was eventually expanded into a series.

This book addressed pivotal moments in a child’s life and assured them that it’s okay to be different. Because of this wonderful message, the book was a New York Times number one best-seller in 2018.

Rapping

Yes, that happened in 2005, but he only released one album. “You Can’t See Me” was the title of his rap album, which he collaborated on with his cousin Tha Trademarc.

What Motivated John Cena to Exercise?

Bullying is one of the factors that either makes or breaks a person, and in Cena’s case, it definitely made him. “As a young kid, I was heavily picked on and bullied because of my choices of dress and music that I listened to,” Cena explained, “and I was really skinny and scrawny, like 100 pounds.”

At the age of 12, he was determined to get in shape and began working out religiously. He got incredibly fit at 17 years old, weighing 225 pounds.

Cena went on to Springfield College in Massachusetts to study exercise physiology. With his degree, he worked in the protein shop at Gold’s Gym before stepping into the wrestling world.

Final Word

John Cena went on to win both wrestling championships and our hearts. Whether through his films, books, or donations. He helps emotionally wounded warriors in finding hope in their lives. In addition to granting hundreds of children’s wishes for the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

So, was John Cena a Marine? It doesn’t matter; we love him regardless!
